講座題目:Biomechanical analysis of slips and falls

Falls are a major safety concern in both daily activities and occupational settings. In Singapore, over 40% of workplace fatalities are related to falls, and fall-related injuries account for nearly 85% of all injuries in the hospital emergency department. Up to 50% of falls are slip-induced. In order to develop effective strategies for preventing slip-induced falls, it is necessary to understand biomechanics of slips. This presentation will report Dr. Qu’s recent research findings in biomechanical mechanisms of slip-induced falls. Future research directions in fall prevention will also be discussed.

報(bào)告人簡介:

Dr. Qu is an assistant professor within the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He is Deputy Director of Design and Human Factors Laboratory, and Professor in Charge of Institute for Sports Research Laboratories at NTU. Dr. Qu received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees both in automation control from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He obtained his PhD degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech, USA, in 2008. His research interests include occupational biomechanics, aging and human work capacity, human motion analysis, and human computer interaction.
